PHPS 7th Grade Black Tourney Champions 6-29 SAS Tournament
If they look hot is, it is because they were! The PHPS-EDC 7th grade Youth basketball team finished the summer session strong, winning all three games in their tournament on June 29, 2013. Missing from photo is Jordan Helwig who missed the last game. Jake Brenner started for all three games and stepped up his game. “I told coach Ona that I thought Jake was going to have a breakout tournament last weekend,” said coach David Glas. “I was just off a week!” Cody Moore, Mason Hobert and Tyler Mclaughlin all came off the bench and played great as well. Mason went in and hit a three. Tyler was lock down on defense and Cody was making some moves and finishing shots that were great to watch. Coach Glas added, “After our only loss in Tahoe we talked about the need for the players to come off the bench and know what we are doing and today they really proved themselves. It didn’t matter who was on the floor we really looked seamless!”
The PHPS-EDC Black 7th lead all of the first two games and never looked back. The third game they gave up the tip but quickly regained the lead only to give it up with about three minutes left to play. Despite having several in foul trouble and having only 2 on the bench they regained their composure and sealed the victory. “I had to call a timeout and remind the boys that they need to be mentally tough. It was really hot and humid and they started coasting and settling for poor shots, something they hadn’t really done all day. They regrouped and finished strong!”
“It was a good tournament for us, we ran our plays as good or better than we ever have. Jordan, Marshall, Cameron, Addison and Jake B. all started strong. When they came out their replacements were just as strong. They are really a talented group and it was fun to watch them do what we know they can do!” said coach Glas.

The SAS 8-18 tournament was a great one for the 6th Grade ICE team. It was the first tournament with all of the team present and they played like a team as well. With 3 games in just 4 hours they showed that the summer conditioning really payed off. The 6th Grade ICE won the first and last games to finish 2-1 for the day. “I’m really proud of the way they played today,” said coach Glas. “Considering this was only their third tournament they are really coming together!” With some experience and confidence now under their belts it will be exciting to see them continue to improve!
